NCServes operates on the principle of a coordinated network of service providers, ensuring that Veterans and their Families receive timely and appropriate support tailored to their specific needs.

The network utilizes a technology platform that allows for seamless communication and collaboration among service providers, enabling them to efficiently connect clients with the resources they require.

Over the past 10 years, we've evolved, adapted, and grown, driven by our passion for empowering Veterans and their Families to thrive.

Founded in Asheville in 1969, the ABCCM is a Christian community consortium that has grown to be supported by over 300 churches of ALL denominations with a force of over 6,000 trained volunteers operating in 24 Western North Carolina counties. It is the vision and hands-on, community based experience of ABCCM leadership that led to the founding of Veterans Services of the Carolinas.  A powerful force for good, the ABCCM stimulates doing together what individual congregations and individuals cannot do separately.

We accomplish this through these ministries: Crisis Ministry, Jail Ministry,  Medical Ministry, Transformation Village,  Veterans Restoration Quarters, Veteran Services of the Carolinas, and Recovery Living Center.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services manages the delivery of health and human related services for all North Carolinians, especially our most vulnerable people – children, elderly, disabled and low-income families. The Department works closely with health care professionals, community leaders, advocacy groups, local, state and federal entities and many other stakeholders to make this happen.

SAMHSA and Veterans Administration guidance and support have allowed the Division of Mental Health to be the primary funder in support of the development and growth of NCServes from a Walmart Foundation funded pilot project with the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) at Syracuse University into the Nations First integrated community care network for Veterans. This demonstration led to the adoption of the NCCARE360 platform by the State of North Carolina.

Western North Carolina’s LME/MCO, Vaya Health manages services for people with behavioral health (mental health and substance use), I/DD, and TBI in 32 counties across North Carolina. Beginning in 2024, Vaya Health also will manage physical health and pharmacy services for Medicaid.

The story of NCServes does not happen without the leadership and professionalism of VAYA Health, they have been a full strategic partner and financial supporter since inception. Their understanding of the complex Medicaid, Federal and State funding mechanisms has been invaluable throughout the entire process of building the Nation’s First Fully Integrated Community Care Network for Veterans and their Families here in NC.

Client Quotes

The saying is true, it takes a village. My life 6 months ago compared to now is unrecognizable.
Sgt. Stephen Coffee // Marine Corps Veteran
I am so grateful to the efforts of VSC and the other organizations. Without them, I would still be homeless. I can truly say they are my Guardian Angels.
